A version of Debiotech’s " IV Exprés " infusion pump is scheduled to make its first space flight later this year.

As part of the equipment for use aboard the International Space Station " Alpha " the US Space Shuttle " Endeavour " will carry one of eight " IV Exprés " pumps delivered to NASA into orbit on November 30, 2000 (launch time is 10.48 PM EST). This will be the 101st flight of a US Space Shuttle and the first one for " IV Exprés ".

The immediate interest of this kind of medical equipment is to provide emergency care to the Space Station’s inhabitants in the case of unforeseen injuries or disease.

The selection of " IV Exprés " for that particular purpose is a significant acknowledgement of Debiotech’s efforts toward miniaturization and reliability in its infusion pump technology, which will directly benefit to every patient in the home care and hospital setting.
