Debiotech’s IV Pump receives the 2006 Medical Design Excellence Award (MDEA)

(April 10, 2006)

Debiotech has been named as receiving the 2006 Medical Design Excellence Award (MDEA) for the design of the IV Expres, multimode advanced IV infusion pump.

As a winner, Debiotech’s licensee – Delphi Medical System – will be attending the awards ceremony June 7, 2006 at the Medical Design & Manufacturing East 2006 Conference and Exposition at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City.

“We are extremely proud that the IV Expres has been chosen to receive this prestigious award," said Dr. Frederic Neftel, Debiotech’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “This Award is a major recognition for all the efforts of a very talented, innovative and passionated team of engineers, technicians, physicians and nurses who have contributed to the development of the IV Expres over the years. This is also a particularly successful step for that product which is now totaling booking in excess of 100 million US$”.

“The IVantage is the result of an extensive collaboration with numerous players in the IV infusion field, including nurses, physicians and patients, to satisfy the need for safety, ease of use and patient’s Quality of Life,” says Pierre Alain Charmoy, Debiotech’s Project Manager for the IV Expres. “It further integrates a lot of telemedicine capabilities to ensure that the patient is always taken care of in the most accurate and efficient way”.

The IV Expres has been licensed exclusively to Delphi Medical Systems in all countries, except Japan where it is sold by JMS Corporation. The IV Expres is sold under the tradename of “IVAntage” outside Japan and under the tradename of “iFusor” in Japan. The IVantage product is sold by Delphi Medical partners: Fresenius Kabi (outside the US) and Alliance Medical (in the US).

Medical Design Excellence Award

MDEA is the premier awards program for the medical technology community. Sponsored by Medical Device & Diagnostic Industry magazine and organized by Canon Communications, it recognizes the many engineers, scientists, designers and clinicians responsible for the groundbreaking innovations changing the way healthcare is delivered. MDEA winners are chosen based on excellence in product innovation, design and engineering achievement, end-user benefit and cost-effectiveness in manufacturing and healthcare delivery. An impartial multidisciplinary panel of third-party jurors -- with expertise in biomedical engineering, human factors, industrial design, medicine and diagnostics -- conduct a comprehensive review of the entries. The awards were presented today during the Medical Design and Manufacturing East 2006 Conference and Exposition at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City.
