Debiotech SA, Lausanne, Switzerland, is proud to announce the successful start of the first clinical use of the JewelPump™ on diabetic patients as part of a multi-center study in France. The study, which is coordinated by the CERITD and Dr. Guillaume Charpentier, is aimed at developing new algorithms for a closed-loop system based on the novel JewelPump™, miniaturized patch-pump system with its Androïd based PDA-remote, and the Dexcom CGM sensor.

"Conventional pumps deliver very fluctuating amounts of insulin during short term intervals, because of the friction of the piston on the syringe barrel, with over 30 to 40% deviation for amounts of insulin up to 0.25 Units. The accuracy and precision of the JewelPump™, where every stroke of 0.02 Unit stays well within 5% deviation, makes it a unique opportunity to design more precise closed-loop algorithms."

The first patients have been included since April 2012, and the study will last until September 2012, including 7 renown diabetic centers in France. The closed-loop algorithms will be defined by a group of experts at CEA in Grenoble, to be later incorporated into Debiotech's JewelPump™ product
