Debiostent, Debiotech’s innovative stent coating technology, is based on a patented nano-structured highly biocompatible ceramic coating: the Nanocoating technology. Debiostent is a polymer free coating that combines different types of porosities disposed in a fully controlled manner at the surface of a given stent. This allows a high drug loading capacity while maintaining fully controllable drug elution kinetics, and in parallel opens up the possibility of creating selective drug loaded areas.

Polymer free drug eluting coating

Debiostent, a ceramic coating obtained by nano-structuring techniques, can be applied on most of existing stents, including non-metallic stents. This method allows a perfect control and tuning of the chemistry of the ceramic, while increasing the stent biocompatibility properties. Oxides such as TiO2, Al2O3 or IrO2, as well as calcium phosphates such as hydroxyapatite can be coated onto various metallic substrates.

High loading capacity

Loading capacity is defined by the size of the drug reservoirs present in the lower layer of the coating. Reservoirs represent up to 30% of the total coating volume and drug loading can reach up to 10µg per mm2 and more.

Controllable drug elution kinetics

The elution kinetics is controlled by a nanoporous layer disposed over the top of the reservoirs. By varying its thickness, pore size and tortuosity, elution times between a few days and several months can theoretically be obtained.

Selective drug loaded areas

Drug reservoir can be disposed in a fully controlled manner at the surface of the stent. Certain areas may consist of densely packed reservoirs, while others may be exempt of reservoirs. Reservoirs may, for example, only be located on the adluminal part of the stent, in direct contact with the intima of the vessel.
